Just a few hours after it was revealed that the Internal Revenue Service (IRS) failed to audit the personal tax returns filed by Donald Trump, new reports have emerged about the alleged collaboration between the Trump-appointed IRS Commissioner the former United States president.
A House committee informed on Tuesday through a report that there was no examination on the 2015, 2016 and 2017 tax returns that Trump filed during his first two years as president.
“We have no other assurance that the president is following the same laws that the rest of us follow when it comes to paying our taxes and being good fiscal citizens,” long-time tax historian Joe Thorndike told Politico.
“And if the IRS can’t be relied upon to do this to follow their own rules, I think that is extremely disappointing.”
Charles Rettig was appointed by Trump back in October 2018 to manage and oversee the implementation and enforcement of the internal revenue legislation.
As reported by CREW, Rettig has earned huge sums by renting out Trump properties while he was in charge of the IRS.
Rettig also refused to release President Trump‘s tax returns last year, stressing that he was responsible to make the decision on whether to comply with the Democrats’ request and turn over Trump’s tax returns.
Meanwhile, Rettig has made 100,000 to 200,000 dollars a year over the last two years from two units at Trump International Waikiki. The former IRS head reportedly bought a 50 percent stake in the units three years before they opened.
Rettig avoided disclosing that the properties were in a Trump-branded building when he was first nominated. He didn’t specifically address questions about the properties at his confirmation hearing. All he said was that he would serve in a “impartial, unbiased” manner.
