>> GOOD MORNING. IT’S WEDNESDAY, DECEMBER 21ST. I’M TEO TORRES. HERE’S A LOOK AT OUR BIG STORIES TODAY. A NEW CALIFORNIA LAW BANNING THE SALE OF FLAVORED TOBACCO GOES INTO EFFECT TODAY. CALIFORNIA VOTERS PASSED PROPOSITION 31 THIS NOVEMBER. THE MEASURE BANS THE SALE OF CERTAIN FLAVORED TOBACCO PRODUCTS IN CALIFORNIA. THE PROPOSITION WAS CHALLENGED BY TOBACCO COMPANIES. BUT THE SUPREME COURT REFUSED TO BLOCK THE LAW. A WRONG WAY DRIVER CAUSED A MULTI-VEHICLE CRASH IN RANCHO CORDOVA LAST NIGHT. METRO FIRE SHARED THESE IMAGES OF THE DAMAGE. THEY SAY THREE PEOPLE WERE HURT IN THE CRASH, ALL WITH MINOR OR MODERATE INJURIES. BUT ONE OF THE PATIENTS DID SUFFER WHAT THEY’RE CALLING A CRITICAL MEDICAL EMERGENCY. NO UPDATES ON THEIR CONDITION THIS MORNING. THE CAUSE OF THE CRASH IS STILL BEING INVESTIGATED. TODAY IS HOMELESS PERSONS MEMORIAL DAY, AN EFFORT TO REMEMBER THOSE WHO DON’T HAVE A WARM PLACE TO STAY ON A LONG, COLD NIGHT. THERE WILL BE SOME EVENTS AS A RESULT. AT 7:00 AT SACRAMENTO CITY HALL, SUPPORTERS WILL HOLD A CANDLELIGHT VIGIL AND READ THE NAMES OF MORE THAN 150 HOMELESS PEOPLE WHO DIED THIS YEAR. AND IN JACKSON, THERE WILL BE A VIGIL FOR AMADOR COUNTY’S HOMELESS. IT STARTS AT 5:30 AT PETKOVICH PARK. >> YESTERDAY WE HAD SOME CLOUD COVER AND A FEW SHOWERS POP UP IN THE VALLEY. At 7 p.m. at Sacramento City Hall, supporters will hold a candlelight vigil and read the names of more than 150 homeless people who died in 2022. And in Jackson, there will be a vigil for Amador County’s unhoused. It starts at 5:30 p.m. at Petkovich Park.Family members of a man who became unresponsive while being detained by Sacramento County sheriff’s deputies and who later died will announce today they are filing a wrongful death claim for civil rights violations, according to a statement from Black Lives Matter Sacramento. Sherrano Stingley, 48, was on life support since his arrest on Dec. 6 and his family said he succumbed to his injuries on Dec. 16, according to the statement.A Sacramento-area dog that vanished more than a year ago is heading home. “Zeppelin” disappeared 14 months ago and was found more than 1600 miles from home in Kansas.
